Westfield Matildas keeper Arnold joins Kerr at Chicago Red Stars

Goalkeeper Mackenzie Arnold has signed with Chicago Red Stars in the USA, joining Westfield Matildas teammate Sam Kerr at the NWSL club.

It’s the first time the 25-year-old will play in the US competition, inking a deal until the end of the 2019 season.

Arnold, who plays for Brisbane Roar in the Westfield W-League, had been playing in Norway with Toppserien outfit Arna-Bjornar.

“Massive thank you to everyone for the messages and especially to Chicago Red Stars for this opportunity, Arnold said on Twitter.

“[It’s] been a long time coming and I can’t wait to get started.”

Arnold will come into a Chicago side that is currently third on the NWSL table, thanks largely to the exploits of Kerr who leads the goalscoring charts with 11 for the campaign.

The Gold Coast-born shot-stopper is one of the best keepers in the Westfield W-League, taking out the Goalkeeper of the Year award on three occasions (2013, 2014 and 2018).

She has also featured 23 times for the Westfield Matildas since her debut in 2012, taking part in the 2015 and 2019 FIFA World Cups, as well as the 2016 Olympics in Brazil.

Arnold will immediately get started with the Red Stars squad and could debut in this weekend’s clash with Utah Royals.
