Social media was alight with praise, emotion and fanfare after the Westfield Matildas notched a 5-0 win over Vietnam in the first game of their two-legged tie on the road to Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. 

The Westfield Matildas take their five-goal advantage to Vietnam ahead of their second leg showdown at Cẩm Phả Stadium on March 11.

Part one of their job is done but the task is far from over, with another strong showing in Vietnam required for the Westfield Matildas to win the tie and secure their spot at the Olympic Games.

It was a happy homecoming for van Egmond; the Novocastrian returned to her home town to score the third goal of the game as the Green and Gold star helped the Westfield Matildas on their way to a comprehensive win.


The 5-0 victory puts the Westfield Matildas in an excellent place heading into the second leg of the tie; they need only to maintain their aggregate lead after the second leg to qualify for Tokyo 2020, but the Westfield Matildas stars know the job is far from over:
