Emily Gielnik's Aston Villa continued their unbeaten start to the season with a shootout victory over Manchester United in the Conti Cup group stage.

Manchester United opened the scoring through Nikita Parris, with her Lionesses teammate Rachel Daly finding the equaliser for Villa to send the game into penalties.

Villa's goalkeeper Anna Leat, on her debut, made four saves in the shootout to ensure Aston Villa secured the extra point in their 4-3 opening group stage game.

Next up, Mackenzie Arnold's West Ham United faced Championship side London City Lionesses in their opening game of the Conti Cup group stage.

London City had a 2-0 lead at the 62nd minute with a goal to Lois Heuchan and Sarah Ewens. Viviane Asseyi scored her first goal for the Hammers to claw a goal back before skipper Dagný Brynjarsdóttir scored a 94th-minute equaliser to send the game to penalties.

Every single player on the field had to step up to take a penalty, with 26 being taken. Arnold netted her attempt and made a save to ensure West Ham took the extra point.

Lastly, Kyah Simon's Tottenham Hotspur faced Reading FC in the Conti Cup, with the Australian coming off the bench for the Spurs.

Tottenham opened their Conti Cup campaign with a 2-1 win away to Reading. Ashleigh Neville opened the scoring for the visitors in the 7th minute, with Nikola Karczewska then doubling their advantage just before the halftime break.

Simon made an appearance off the bench for Rehanne Skinner's side, however, her cameo was short as she was stretched off after a collision.

Natasha Dowie scored from the spot for Reading in the 11th minute of stoppage time, but Spurs were able to hang on for the win to move to second in Group E.

USA

Moving over to the USA, Emily Van Egmond's San Diego Wave finished off their regular season against the North Carolina Courage. The Wave booked their spot in the playoffs a week prior, however, were still in contention to lift the shield in their inaugural season.

Wave was held to a tight 0-0 draw to Courage, with Van Egmond substituted off during the halftime break after an injury. San Diego clinches a home playoff game and will face the Chicago Red Stars after the international break.

Meanwhile, Alex Chidiac's Racing Louisville closed out its season by hosting Chloe Logarzo's Kansas City Current. Racing, although already out of contention for the playoffs, was able to impact the Current's chances of claiming the shield.

Jessica McDonald scored a 92nd-minute matchwinner, to deny Current the chance to clinch the shield and to have a home-field advantage in their playoff game.

Current will take on the Houston Dash in their playoff game.

France

Next up, Lydia Williams' Paris Saint-Germain was held to a 2-2 draw against Le Havre, with PSG ending their three-game winning run.

Williams remained on the bench in the draw, as PSG hold on to second place on the ladder.

Sweden

Moving over to Sweden, Clare Polkinghorne, Katrina Gorry and Charli Grant all started for Vittsjö GIK when they hosted Emma Checker's Umeå IK before the international break.

Polkinghorne found the back of the net as Vittsjö recorded a dominant 5-0 win. Vittsjö sits in seventh on the table after the win with 36 points.

Meanwhile, Teagan Micah's FC Rosengård recorded a 4-2 win over KIF Örebro as they increased their lead at the top of the table by five points with their 17th win of the season.

KIF Örebro took the lead in the opening 60 seconds of the game before Mimmi Larsson equalised 10 minutes later. Three more goals in the half, one to the hosts and two to the visitors, saw Rosengård take a narrow 3-2 lead into the break.

Olivia Schough scored her second penalty of the game to ensure Rosengård secured the win.

Elise Kellond-Knight, Kyra Cooney-Cross and Courtney Nevin's fifth-place Hammarby recorded a 1-1 draw with Piteå IF. Cooney-Cross netted a long-range effort to open the scoring for the game, however, just five minutes later Piteå found the equaliser.

Piteå found the back of the net again, but the goal was chalked off for a foul on the keeper.

Lastly, Remy Siemsen, fresh off being called into camp as an injury replacement, scored for AIK as they went down 4-2 to Djurgårdens.

Norway

Tameka Yallop's SK Brann Kvinner recorded a 1-0 win over Stabæk. Yallop did not feature in the game, sidelined with an ankle injury.

Brann now leads the playoffs with three rounds remaining.
