Matildas Abroad: Lyon extend unbeaten streak in D1 to 19; Nevin makes debut in Sweden

With the international break over, our Matildas Abroad were back in action in their club colours. Chelsea and Manchester City booked tickets to the Women's FA Cup, while Lyon extended their unbeaten streak in the D1 to 19. 

Emily van Egmond made her starting debut for San Diego Wave FC; while Angie Beard and Indi-Paige Riley were on the scoresheet for Fortuna Hjørring.

In England, Manchester City and Chelsea collected wins in the Women's FA Cup semi-finals to book a matchup at Wembley Stadium next month.

Moving over to the USA, Emily van Egmond's made her starting debut for San Diego Wave FC against Portland Thorns. 


Wave took a 3-0 deficit in the break, however, goals to Belle Briede and Taylor Kornieck almost fashioned back a late come-from-behind, but San Diego went down 3-2 to Thorns. 

Alex Chidiac's Racing Lousiville hosted Chicago Red Stars in the Challenge Cup and managed to steal a point with a 1-1 draw. Chidiac will join Lousiville for the upcoming NWSL season. 

Over in France, Mary Fowler started for Montpellier when they took on Paris FC. 

A quick-fire double for the hosts and an own goal saw Montpellier go into the break 3-0 down.  

Nérilia Mondésir clawed a goal back in the second stanza, but Montpellier faced their second defeat in as many weeks.

Ellie Carpenter's Lyon was attempting to maintain their lead at the top of the table when they faced Fleury 91.

Rosemonde Kouassi gave Fleury the lead in the 36th minute, however, an own goal less than a minute later drew things level going into the break.

Catarina Macário sealed the win for Lyon at the hour mark, with a stunning Olimpico. Lyon has now extended their unbeaten streak to 19, with three games remaining in the season. 

Moving over to Sweden, Remy Siemsen's AIK Fotboll were beaten 3-0 by ladder leaders BK Häcken; however, Siemsen was not been named in the matchday squad after just arriving from international duty. 

Teagan Micah and Charli Grant's FC Rosengård recorded a 5-2 win over Djurgårdens. Grant and Micah were unused substitutes on the bench in the win. 

Clare Polkinghorne and Katrina Gorry's Vittsjö GIK  faced a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Umeå. 

Gorry did not feature in the matchday squad, while Polkinghorne came off in the 69th minute. 

Kyra Cooney-Cross and Courtney Nevin's Hammarby secured their first win of the season, beating Piteå 1-0, Nevin made her debut for Hammarby and was awarded POTM. 

Over in Denmark, Fortuna Hjørring had two games to play in three days.

Angie Beard, Clare Wheeler and Indi-Paige Riley all started for Fortuna against Brøndby IF.

A double to Beard and a goal to Riley gave Fortuna a 3-0 lead going into the break, they went on to win 4-1. 


Fortuna Hjørring then faced a 6-1 defeat, going down to HB Køge.  

Our final destination takes us to Italy, where Aivi Luik and Ella Mastrantonio's Pomigliano Calcio hosted Lazio, with the game ending in a 1-1 draw.
