Westfield Matildas learn their opponents for Tokyo 2020 Olympic qualifiers

The Westfield Matildas have learned their opponents in the first phase of qualifying for the Tokyo Olympics 2020.

Ante Milicic’s side have been drawn in Group B and will take on host nation China, Thailand and Chinese Taipei.

Australia’s bid to get to the 2020 games features a new qualifying format.

The eight remaining teams – aiming to join Olympic hosts Japan at the Olympics – have been divided into two groups.

The top two sides will progress to the two-legged play-offs to decide the final two Asian qualifiers.

The Asian Qualifiers Final Round draw took place at the AFC House in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Friday evening.

The Westfield Matildas will play their group phase qualifiers from February 3 to 9 next year

If Australia finish in the top-two of their group, the two-legged play-off is scheduled to commence on the dates of March 6 and 11, 2020.
