Westfield Matildas forwards striking hot form

Matildas v Germany - Thin Banner

The Westfield Matildas have been on fire this weekend, with defences around the globe unable to contain the likes of Sam Kerr, Caitlin Foord, Hayley Raso, and Emily Gielnik.

Hayley Raso scored her first hat trick in Everton's 5-0 romp over Brighton. Not only was it a perfect treble - with a header, right foot, and left foot finish - but Raso also earned the penalty that led to Izzy Christiansen's opener.

"I am delighted, it's really good for me to get that hat trick. I've never scored one before so I was pretty excited about it." Raso told Everton's media

After a couple of weeks at right back, she was happy to be back further up the field.

"For me personally it's good to be back on the wing where I'm more confident and getting on the scoresheet. I haven't in a while but I think I like it better up front" Raso said with a laugh.

She wasn't the only Aussie in England finding the back of the net.

Caitlin Foord opened the scoring at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Arsenal's way to a 3-0 win and bragging rights in the North London Derby.

Foord received the ball out on the right flank, cut inside, passed it out to Noelle Maritz, who then cut it back for the Westfield Matilda to finish from about 12 yards out.

The goal is Foord's 10th for the FA WSL season, putting her just behind fellow Australian Sam Kerr who bagged a brace in Chelsea's 2-0 win over Aston Villa.

The Westfield Matildas captain was once again unstoppable in combination with Fran Kirby who set up both of her goals.

A neat ball found Kerr just inside the top of the box and her first time hit looped over the Aston Villa goalkeeper. The second saw Kirby lift a cross into the box with Kerr rising highest to meet it. The Aussie now sits on 14 goals, one behind golden boot leader Vivianne Miedema.

With 19 goals in all competitions, including that Conti Cup final hat trick and goals in the UEFA Women's Champions League - Kerr is in a particularly rich vein of form.

"I guess I'm in better goal scoring form but I think I can still be better." Kerr told BT Sport

The Westfield Matilda was full of praise for her partner in crime in Fran Kirby.

"Fran's an exceptional player. I think she's been in amazing form this year herself, she's just easy to play with. I understand her, she understands me."

Closer to home, the goals didn't stop with Emily Gielnik scoring in her final game for Brisbane Roar in their 3-0 win over Newcastle Jets.

Gielnik nodded it in off a Mariel Hecher corner to score her 13th goal of the season and has all but tied up the golden boot. Gielnik now joins Kerr in holding the record for most goals in a Westfield W-League regular season with 13. She is now off to Sweden to play for Vittsjö.
