Van Egmond stoked to be on home soil once again with CommBank Matildas

There's no place quite like home.

After such a long time away the Commonwealth Bank Matildas are once again on home soil, following up last month's series against Brazil with two games against the United States.

Commonwealth Bank Matildas midfielder Emily van Egmond was blown away by the support last month and can't wait to do it all again on November 27 and 30.

"It was good. To be able to come back to Australia was awesome, but to be here in front of the fans, Australia always turns up for us, which is awesome," she said.

"It was nice to be home playing here, against as big a team as Brazil, but USA is obviously number one and the girls are all buzzing for it."

After almost two years away, there was a party atmosphere to last month's matches. While Australia had an undeniable home crowd advantage, the Brazilian sections were vibrant and vocal.

"Yeah, Brazil even had their own little corner, the Brazilian supporters who were awesome, their football chants were great.

"But again, the Australian public always turn up and for the girls who are from New South Wales, to be able to play in front of friends and family, it's special as well."

While the Commonwealth Bank Matildas and the USWNT have played 31 times, only five of these matchups have been on Australian soil; the last one was back in 2000.

The year 2000 was also when the attendance record for a Commonwealth Bank Matildas' match in Australia was set with 33,000 watching Australia and Sweden at the Olympics.

A big opponent, a big stadium, and the recent easing of crowd capacity restrictions make this game the perfect opportunity to break that record ahead of the FIFA Women's World Cup in 2023.

"It's amazing, to be honest. We've got full capacity back here in New South Wales. We're obviously fortunate to be able to be playing here, thanks to the New South Wales Government and FA for pulling this off.

"I know the girls can't wait, I can't wait. It's always a great match between the two teams and I urge everyone to come out," she continued.

There is special incentive for junior participants to head to the games with children registered in Australia’s largest club-based participation sport able to access a $5 ticket offer for both games.

Van Egmond encourages everyone to get to the game to witness some of the best players in the world in their own backyard.

"I think as a young aspiring footballer to be able to have your national team come out and play, it's awesome."

"I encourage everyone to come out, it's not every day you get to see the world's number one team come to your shores. So, for anyone who has a chance to get to the game, beg your parents to come because it's going to be awesome."

As a Novocastrian, van Egmond is particularly excited to play at McDonald Jones Stadium in Newcastle and is looking forward to playing in the Hunter.

"I'm super proud of where I'm from and to be able to go back to Newcastle on the 30th to play against USA I can't wait and hopefully all those people come out and support us."

Tickets are now on sale for both games.
