Top five Westfield Matildas moments of 2018: Four straight against Brazil

The Westfield Matildas may have fallen just short at the AFC Women's Asian Cup Jordan 2018, but the year was a noteworthy one for Alen Stajcic's side who will enter 2019 quietly hopeful of winning the biggest prize in women's football.

Australia lost that AFC Women's Asian Cup decider to Japan but, in reaching the last four, booked their spot at the FIFA Women's World Cup France 2019™.

And the form that the Westfield Matildas displayed during the year means they are every chance of having a major influence in France next year.

Westfield Matildas get the better of Brazil... again

It came as no surprise to see the Westfield Matildas draw Brazil in Group C at FIFA Women's World Cup 2019™.

The two countries have regularly met in tournament play and did so again at the Tournament of Nations in July.

Australia made it four wins on the trot against Brazil with a 3-1 success in Kansas that was set up by a blistering first half.

An own-goal kicked things off before Tameka Butt scored and then turned provider for Kerr, making Brazil's late goal nothing more than a consolation.
