Remy Siemsen makes it from the stands to the pitch in CommBank Matildas debut

Remy Siemsen isn't a total stranger to CommBank Stadium.

The Sydney FC striker played a key role on the ground in a Sydney derby last season but taking to the pitch this time around was even more special.

"It's a dream come true. I've dreamt of this moment for practically my whole life, so to be able to don the green and gold last night was an amazing feeling," Siemsen said of her Commonwealth Bank Matildas debut.

"It was even more special to be able to do it in front of friends and family and on home soil. I'm just so grateful that I was given that opportunity."

Not that long ago the 21-year-old was a Commonwealth Bank Matildas fan, first and foremost.

"I've followed this team for so long and I was definitely one of those little kids on the other side of the fence cheering on the Matildas as well as my favourite women's A-League team, Sydney FC, so it was really special for me," she fondly recalled.

"I went to the last game [at CommBank Stadium in 2019] when the Matildas played and it was pretty crazy to be entering the stadium, but as a player this time."

Against Chile in 2019, a Commonwealth Bank Matildas attendance record was set. Although that number wasn't broken on Saturday night, the noise and atmosphere in the stands belied the 15,270 crowd figure.

"The fans made it amazing. The atmosphere was electric when we stepped into the stadium," Siemsen said.

MATCH REPORT: Happy homecoming for the CommBank Matildas with victory over Brazil

"We were on the bus heading in and we saw all these fans going towards the stadium in their jerseys. I could just tell around the group, everyone was so ecstatic and excited to be back on home soil playing in front of our friends, family and fans.

"It was a really special moment, not just for me, but for the playing group. A lot of the girls play overseas, so it was really nice for them to be able to come back home and see their families as well as put on a show for the whole of Sydney and Australia."

Remy Siemsen and Sam Kerr embrace post game

Siemsen was one of four Australian-based players who spent the time between camps training at Fortuna Hjorring at Denmark; an experience she absolutely relished.

With an A-League Women's season on the horizon as well, Siemsen's focus for the moment is continuing to take the opportunity she has currently been given and work towards being 'one day better.'

It's a job that will be made easier thanks to the encouragement and support of her teammates,

"The girls have been nothing but encouraging and so welcoming, since I've stepped foot into my first camp in Ireland all the way up until now. They all just said to relax and play my natural game."

"As soon as I was given the opportunity to come on, I just wanted to make an impact and do my job as best as I could for the team. The girls have just been absolutely amazing," she continued.

"I've looked up to them for the majority of my life, so I'm still pinching myself that I get to play alongside them."

The Commonwealth Bank Matildas will look to make it two wins with the team set to lock horns with Brazil once again on Tuesday night.

"We are definitely going to appreciate and celebrate the win last night, but we know we have another job to do. We'll be heading into the game with the same game plan to stick to our principles and how we want to play and hopefully we can get another win in front of the home crowd."
