Remy Siemsen: "It's not every day you get to verse an opposition like the US"

Fresh off her Commonwealth Bank Matildas debut, Remy Siemsen is already looking forward to the next challenge. 

And there are few bigger challenges than the US Women's National Team.

For the first time in 21 years, the current two-time reigning FIFA Women's World Cup champions will be playing Down Under. 

"I'm so pumped. It's not every day you get to verse an opposition like the US and they haven't been here in 21 years... I wasn't even born," Siemsen said with a laugh. 

"It's a really exciting time. I know that it's going to be a very entertaining and competitive match. I just really hope I can be part of that squad and hopefully get some more match minutes under my belt and really embrace the whole experience." 

The attacker was one of a handful of players who was able to make her Australian debut in front of a raucous home crowd.

The two-game series against Brazil was a wonderful return home for the team, a fantastic welcome back to the stands for fans, and a perfect glimpse into what we can expect in 2023. 

Now, with these matches against the US in both Sydney and Newcastle, Siemsen expects more of the same and can't wait to see even bigger crowds. 

"I just know that it's going to be such an entertaining game, they're ranked number one in the world. We have world-class players, they have world-class players, so it's just going to be a very entertaining, competitive match," she continued.

"I think it's just going to be an amazing atmosphere. We got a small insight into what that was like at the Brazil games.

"I just encourage everyone to get out and come support us, because the atmosphere at CommBank Stadium was absolutely amazing and electric and I think it will be even better against USA," she said. 

Playing at home is so special to the Commonwealth Bank Matildas and Siemsen felt the love not only for the team but for herself on debut against Brazil. 

"The belief and support from the fans was just absolutely amazing and really humbling for me to see. Their support means the world to me individually, but also all the fan support for our team."

Having familiar faces in the crowd and on the pitch made it all the more memorable. 

"It's just even more special that the girls within the team were so excited for me to make my debut. I've played with a lot of the girls throughout the years in the W-League.

"It was just a really special moment for myself and also to share that moment with those girls."

Siemsen is one of a number of players who have now gotten their first taste of senior national team football as a Commonwealth Bank Matilda and is looking forward to the opportunity to don the green and gold once again. 

"I hope I can be a part of the upcoming games here at Stadium Australia and McDonald Jones stadium."
