Pararoos announce national squad

Pararoos Head Coach Paul Brown has selected a 13-player squad for the International Tournament in Ukraine.

Pararoos Head Coach Paul Brown has selected a 13-player squad for the International Tournament in Football 7-a-side which will be held at the National Centre of Paralympic and Deaflympic Trainings “UKRAINA” which is in Yevpatoriya City, Ukraine from 1-10 May 2012.

The tournament, hosted by the National Paralympic Committee of Ukraine, has been staged prior to the 2012 London Paralympic Games as a preparatory event for many of the teams who have qualified for the Games.

The Pararoos, fresh from their recent second placing at the AFC Dream Asia tournament in Abu Dhabi, will line-up in Group B with the Netherlands, Brazil, and host nation Ukraine, whilst Russia, Iran, USA and Argentina will form Group A.

Unfortunately, due to personal commitments, Paul Brown is unable to travel to the Ukraine for the tournament, but has every confidence that his long-time assistant coach, Kai Lammert, will be capable of stepping into the breach to coach the Pararoos at the tournament.

“Like the squad we took to Abu Dhabi, this is a young side that we have high hopes for in the future,” said Brown

“This tournament will be a great opportunity for the players to test themselves against teams that have qualified for the Paralympics and the experience will provide them with the knowledge of what standard is required to qualify and compete at 2016 Paralympics in Brazil.

“Unfortunately I am unable to travel on this occasion, but I am confident that Kai and David (Cantoni) will be able to manage the team,” concluded Brown.

The Pararoos, are funded by the Australian Paralympic Committee and supported by Football Federation Australia.
