Matildas At Home: More goals for Siemsen as van Egmond, Chidiac make instant impact

Round two saw even more Commonwealth Bank Matildas return to A-League Women's action in what was a fascinating round.

There were two big derbies and two big returns to the league. It all kicked off with Emily van Egmond marking her return to Newcastle with an assist and the Jets coming up 5-1 winners over the Wellington Phoenix.

Kirsty Fenton, Marie Dolvik and Sophie Harding all found the back of the net with Tara Andrews firing off a double. Ava Pritchard etched her name into history scoring the Phoenix's first A-League Women's goal.

In the return fixture of last week's clash between Brisbane Roar and Perth Glory, it was a similar story. The team from the west claimed all three points via a late goal - this week from Alana Jancevski in the 86th minute.

Jamilla Rankin ran out a full 90 while Katrina Gorry continues to build match fitness, this time recording a 35 minute cameo.

Sydney FC took bragging rights in the derby over Western Sydney Wanderers once again with a 2-0 win. A Remy Siemsen brace that included a tap in and stunning strike took the Commonwealth Bank Matildas striker to the top of the golden boot standings.

In the Sky Blues defence,  Jess Nash and  Jada Whyman played their roles to ensure a clean sheet while Western Sydney Wanderer Bryleeh Henry entered the fray at half time.

The Melbourne derby saw Victory take home all three points following a 2-1 win. Alex Chidiac's first hit out in navy was a memorable one with the midfielder teeing up Catherine Zimmerman for the equaliser after Amy Jackson's own goal. Lynn Williams scored the winner in her first game with the club.

Courtney Nevin, Kyra Cooney-Cross and Emma Checker played out full matches for their respective sides, putting in solid shifts in the midfield and backline.

After easing her way back into A-League Women's football last week, Karly Roestbakken was into the thick of the action against Adelaide. However, it was the Reds who enjoyed the spoils with Emily Condon scoring in the 91st minute to seal it.
