Matildas Abroad Preview: Damallsvenskan season comes to a close in Sweden

Before the final international break of the year kicks off next week, our Matildas Abroad are in action all around Europe before coming back to Australia for games against Sweden and Thailand. 

The season wraps up in Sweden with Aussies going head-to-head on the final day in the Damallsvenskan, while its 1st place Manchester United takes on 3rd place Chelsea in the WSL in England.

England

Kicking off in Leicester, last-placed Leicester City will host Caitlin Foord and Steph Catley's Arsenal, with the Foxes still in the hunt for their first win of the season up against an undefeated Gunners' side. 


Jonas Eidevall's side recorded their 13th win in a row last weekend in their 3-1 win over West Ham, setting a WSL record. Meanwhile, Leicester hasn't recorded a single point so far in the season and saw their coach replaced throughout the week. 

This game will kick off on Monday morning at 1:00 am AEDT.

Over in Reading, Mary Fowler, Hayley Raso and Alanna Kennedy's Manchester City will take on Reading FC.

Raso scored the matchwinner last weekend as City recorded their third win of the season with a 2-1 victory over Liverpool. 


Kennedy is yet to feature this season, with head coach Gareth Taylor giving an update on her shoulder injury, "We’re probably looking at after the international break to potentially step up and get possible minutes for games." 

This game will kick off on Monday morning at 1:00 am AEDT.

Meanwhile, Spurs will host Clare Wheeler's Everton with both sides looking for their fourth win of the season. 

Wheeler made her WSL starting debut in the Toffee's 3-0 defeat to Manchester United last weekend.

Lastly, Sam Kerr's Chelsea will travel to Manchester to take on the Red Devils. Manchester United currently sit at the top of the ladder and is undefeated, the side is yet to concede a goal so far this season.

The last time the two sides faced one another, Kerr found the back of the twice in a 3-1 win for the Blues.

France

Over in Paris, Lydia Williams' Paris Saint-Germain host Montpellier HSC as PSG aim to record their sixth win of the season and keep in touch with Lyon at the top of the table. 

Williams has only made one appearance so far in the D1 and did not feature in the matchday squad for PSG's last outing against Reims. 

This game will kick off on Saturday night at 11:30 pm AEDT.

Sweden

Lastly in Sweden, the final round kicks off in the OBOS Damallsvenskan with Teagan Micah's FC Rosengård already being crowned champions, lifting the trophy in back-to-back seasons.


Rosengård will wrap up their season away to IF Bromm, and after already claiming the title last weekend they will be hoping they can build some momentum for their UWCL group stage campaign. 

This game will kick off on Saturday night at 10:00 pm AEDT.

Meanwhile, Aivi Luik's BK Häcken will be aiming for a win against Djurgården to hold on to second place on the table, should Häcken remain in second place they will have a direct place in the decisive round of the UWCL next season.

This game will kick off on Saturday night at 10:00 pm AEDT.

Lastly, six Aussies will face off as Clare Polkinghorne, Katrina Gorry and Charli Grant's Vittsjö GIK host Elise Kellond-Knight, Kyra Cooney-Cross and Courtney Nevin's Hammarby. 

Both sides are equal on points at the moment, however, are unable to move into the top three so will be playing for pride.


Kellond-Knight will be playing her last game for the Stockholm-based side, announcing throughout the week she will be departing at the end of the season. While Polkinghorne has signed a recent contract extension with Vittsjö that will see her in Sweden until 2023.
