Matildas Abroad: another hat trick for captain Kerr

Before the Westfield Matildas headed into camp for their upcoming friendlies against Germany and the Netherlands, they were once again starring at club level.

Sam Kerr is now joint top of the golden boot standings after her first half hat trick propelled Chelsea to a 6-0 win over Birmingham City.

Erin Cuthbert’s strike was parried away by Hannah Hampton. Kerr was quickest to react and managed to score from the impossible angle.

Her fast reaction times paid off once again for the second goal. This time a Cuthbert cross found Pernille Harder who headed it onto the crossbar; Kerr was able to finish off the job with a header from close range.

Kerr added a third in injury time of the first half. Cuthbert was once again the provider, this time with a pinpoint free kick with the Australian captain timing her run well and heading home to complete her second hat trick in the league.

A brace to Fran Kirby and a goal to Guro Reiten rounded out the win for the Blues.

Chelsea weren’t the only team winning with West Ham earning a big 5-0 victory over Reading. Emily van Egmond played a full match and could have added a sixth but the damage was done in a big first half for the Hammers.

Hayley Raso’s Everton were 3-1 winners over Aston Villa. Raso was lively, producing plenty of attacks. It was a similar story for Caitlin Foord at Arsenal.

The Gunners were 4-0 winners over Bristol with Foord offering plenty in the attacking third. Australian 'keeper Lydia Williams kept a clean sheet. Recent Westfield Matildas call up Ella Mastrantonio entered the match in the 65th minute.

Tottenham and Alanna Kennedy went down 3-0 to Manchester City.

Spain

Aivi Luik's Sevilla lost 4-2 to Sporting Huelva in the league. Luik, who had been playing in the heart of defence for her Spanish side was in her more familiar defensive midfield role for this match.
