The goal stat that shows how our Westfield Matildas are starring in the NWSL

Sam Kerr’s goalscoring exploits in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) are the stuff of legend, with the Westfield Matildas skipper the competition’s greatest-ever scorer.

She has finished with the Golden Boot for the last two years and currently at the top of the charts again in 2019 with 11 for the campaign so far.

But the 25-year-old isn’t the only Westfield Matildas scoring goals in the NWSL in 2019.

In Portland, attackers Caitlin Foord and Hayley Raso are starring for the NWSL league-leaders, both contributing three goals for the Thorns.

Kyah Simon has found the net twice for the Houston Dash, while Alanna Kennedy has one goal to her name this season with Orlando Pride.

In total, the Australian contingent in the NWSL have found the net 20 times so far in the 2019 season.

While Kerr has contributed more than half of those, it’s still a pretty impressive number from our Westfield Matildas stars.

In fact, the 20 goals scored by Australians in the NWSL this year is more than double of any other nation, outside of players from home country USA.

The next closest to our Aussie girls is eight goals, scored by players from both England and Brazil.
