Cup of Nations Match Preview: Spain v Jamaica

Spain and Jamaica will kick off the 2023 Cup of Nations in Gosford, this will mark the first meeting between the two teams in an 'A' international game.

Both sides will be aiming to kick start 2023 on a positive note, both looking towards their upcoming 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup campaigns. 

Spain comes into the game with the better record of the two teams, having won 4 out of 5 of their last games in 2022. While Jamaica collected three losses and two wins in their last five fixtures. 

Jamaica's coach Lorne Donaldson has named a 24-player squad for the upcoming Cup of Nations, calling up a handful of players that have under ten appearances for their country.

Both teams were in action during the November FIFA International window, with Spain beating Argentina 7-0 and finishing off the year with a 1-0 win over Japan.

While Jamaica's November window saw them take on Paraguay, recording a 1-0 win and a 2-1 loss to the South American side in two friendlies. 

Spain has qualified for a third consecutive FIFA Women's World Cup in 2023 and will face Costa Rica, Zambia and Japan in Group C, with all of their group stage games happening in New Zealand.

Jamaica has qualified for a second consecutive FIFA Women's World Cup in 2023 and will face France, Brazil and Play-off Group C winners in Group F, kicking off their campaign at Allianz Stadium against France. 

This tournament will mark the first time either team has played in Australia, getting used to the conditions before the FIFA Women's World Cup kicks off later this year.
