Both Tim Cahill and John Aloisi ruled themselves out of playing any role in Thursday-s match against Greece, after going through their first training sessions under the watchful eye of the Australian coaching and medical staff.

Both players trained away from the main group in the days two sessions at the Melbourne Grammar Sports Fields in Port Melbourne, going through some drills with Strength and Conditioning Coach Anthony Crea.

During the Socceroos only public appearance prior to Thursday-s match at Melbourne-s Federation Square, both Aloisi and Cahill pretty much confirmed that they would be spectators for the Greece game.

"I'm quite sure I won't be able to play on Thursday," said Aloisi, who is overcoming a foot injury, which forced him to miss Alaves final match of the Spanish Primera Liga season two weeks ago.

Aloisi is keen not to do any further damage to his foot, before the main part of the preparation commences in Holland, starting next weekend.

"It should be alright for the Holland trip which is important because I don't want to get any further injury before I go away," he told the estimated 3,000+ fans that turned up to give the players a rousing reception.

Like Aloisi, Cahill said he had no chance of playing against Greece, saying “I'm no chance of playing Thursday but I'm just happy to be here with the lads and be a part of this camp."

"I'm injured at the moment but things are looking really positive and we're working really hard," he added.

Meanwhile, Mark Viduka and Marco Brescaino has praised the Melbourne public and claimed they are the best fans in the country, after a capacity crowd of 95,000 will be in attendance at the MCG.

“You-re the best,” Viduka said, while Bresciano said that Australia might have to build bigger stadiums if the team continues to get capacity crowds for its games.

One player who proved hugely popular with the crowd was Melbourne Victory-s Archie Thompson, with the crowd continually singing his name throughout the appearance.

Thompson, who has just confirmed he will be returning to play for Victory after the World Cup following his loan stint at PSV Eindhoven, even joked with Guus after he was asked what makes him a great coach.

The day-s afternoon session provided a large contingent of school children the opportunity to see their heroes train and get some autographs.

Attached is several interviews with players after training this afternoon.
