Brazil is history, bring on Jamaica says Matildas captain Sam Kerr

With the dust barely settled on Friday’s magical Montpellier morning, Matildas skipper Sam Kerr is already turning her attention to next Wednesday’s final Group C clash, against Jamaica (kick-off 5:00am AEST).

In a famous victory, Kerr and her Australia teammates recovered from a 2-0 first-half deficit to beat Brazil 3-2 thanks to strikes from Caitlin Foord, Chloe Logarzo and an own goal from Monica.

The result banished memories of last weekend’s opening match, when the Matildas went down 2-1 to a last-gasp goal from Italy.

“Anytime you win for your country it’s an amazing feeling, especially after the last few days we’ve had,” Kerr told www.matildas.com.au.

“So we’ll enjoy this, but we’re not going to take Jamaica lightly and there’s a lot to be done still.

This is just the beginning.”

Asked if the victory over Brazil sent out a statement to their World Cup opponents after the disappointment of the Italy defeat, Kerr said: “The only statement we’re worried about is that people believe the belief we have in this team, and the confidence [we have].

“One game is not going to derail our World Cup hopes.

“We’re back and couldn’t be prouder.”
