Aussies Abroad: Kennedy nets spectacular bicycle kick

Alanna Kennedy scored with a sensational bicycle kick as Orlando Pride held Seattle Reign to a 1-1 draw in the National Women’s Soccer League.

Despite boasting some of the world’s finest attackers in United States international striker Alex Morgan and Brazilian legend Martha, it was the Westfield Matildas centre-back who opened the scoring in breathtaking fashion.

After fellow Westfield Matilda Emily van Egmond’s free-kick was only half-cleared, Kennedy unleashed an astonishing over-head kick which stunned Cheney Stadium.

Reign forward Bethany Balcer levelled up the scores for the home side on 21 minutes and Pride battled through the second half to record their first point of the NWSL season. Although van Egmond almost snatched all three points in the closing stages.

Orlando's Australian duo lined up alongside Westfield W-League stars Rachel Hill of Perth Glory and Brisbane Roar pair Carson Pickett and Chioma Ubogagu.

Westfield Matildas Lydia Williams and Elise Kellond-Knight were unused substitutes for Seattle, who remain undefeated following draws in each of their two matches.
