Aussies Abroad: Kerr on the scoresheet again as Matildas derby ends all square

With the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) now in full swing there were plenty of Westfield Matildas in action over the Easter weekend.

Sam Kerr was once again on the scoresheet for Chicago Red Stars as they played out a thrilling 4-4 draw with Portland Thorns.

Kerr popped up in the 20th minute to put Chicago ahead but the Red Stars had to rely on a double from fellow Westfield W-League star Yuki Nagasato - including a 90th-minute leveller - to earn a share of the spoils.

Westfield Matildas duo Ellie Carpenter and Caitlin Foord also featured, with both playing the full 90 minutes for Portland in the Windy City.

Clare Polkinghorne was her usual solid self for Houston Dash as they overcame Sky Blue FC 1-0 courtesy of an 83rd-minute goal from Sydney FC’s Sofia Huerta.

Kyah Simon was an unused substitute for Houston.

It was not a happy round for Orlando Pride’s Alanna Kennedy and Emily van Egmond, who suffered a 5-0 loss to North Carolina Courage at Sahlen’s Stadium on Thursday.

At Rio Tinto Stadium, Amy Harrison earned a start with Washington Spirit as they took on Utah Royals.

Unfortunately for the midfielder, Western Sydney Wanderers import Lo’eau LaBonta popped up for the Royals in the 10th minute to earn a 1-0 win.
