Westfield Young Matildas place fourth at AFC U-19 Women’s Championship

The Westfield Young Matildas have finished fourth at the AFC U-19 Women’s Championship following defeat to Korea Republic in the third place playoff at Chonburi Stadium in Thailand.

Mary Fowler scored her fourth goal of the competition, to finish equal third in the Golden Boot standings, as Leah Blayney’s side fell to a 9-1 reverse.

Japan clinched edged Korea DRP 2-1 in the final as the three best finishers sealed their place at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup 2020 in Nigeria.

Australia secured their joint best finish in the past 12 years at the asian youth football showcase. Only once have they performed better with a third place finish in 2006.
