Westfield Matildas support the Ribbon of Strength campaign

The Westfield Matildas are loved by thousands of fans around their country for their exploits on the pitch and their actions off it.

But not all the attention they receive – especially on social media – is positive.

In fact, two out of three Australian women have experienced criticism when playing sport, which has seen a lot of young females drop out of sport before the age of 24.

It’s why Westfield Matildas duo Katrina Gorry and Ellie Carpenter are getting behind a campaign to encourage young women to get involved in sport.

The Ribbon of Strength campaign is the brainchild of Pantene, one of the major partners of the Westfield Matildas.

Women are encouraged to braid their own personal message of inspiration into their ribbons in their hair as a symbol to women everywhere that strength really is all in the head.

Braided into the hair, the gold ribbon sends a powerful statement to the world – it’s both a way to write and braid your own personal message of inspiration into your hair - and send a symbol to women everywhere that they belong on the pitch, in the pool, on the track and at the gym.

Pantene has partnered with the Westfield Matildas and both Gorry and Carpenter - who is synonymous with wearing ribbons in her hair when she plays - are ambassadors of the initiative.

And by getting behind the concept, you could win tickets to watch the Westfield Matildas play Chile in either Sydney (November 9) or Adelaide (November 12), plus an on-field tour.
