Westfield Matildas pot allocated for Tokyo 2020 Olympic football draw

With under 100 days until the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games commences, the pots for the draw of the Women's Football Tournament have been announced.  

Allocated according their FIFA Women's World Rankings on 16 April, the Westfield Matildas have joined Canada and fellow AFC compatriots, China, in Pot 3.

The full pot allocations are as follows: 

Pot 1: Japan, USA, Netherlands
Pot 2: Sweden, Great Britain, Brazil
Pot 3: Canada, Australia, China PR
Pot 4: New Zealand, Chile, Zambia

The Home of FIFA in Zurich will host the draws for the Olympic Football Tournaments, set for 21 April at 6:00pm AEST.

During this draw, the 12 sides will be drawn into three groups of four (Groups E to G) - where no group has more than one team from the same confederation.

The draws will be conducted by Sarai Bareman, FIFA Chief Women’s Football Officer, and Jaime Yarza, FIFA Director of Tournaments. Meanwhile FIFA Legend and two time Olympic Gold Medallist, Lindsay Tarpley, will be the draw assistant.

The Women's Football Tournament will kick off on 21 July 2021.
