WATCH: Van Egmond bags two assists for Wave FC

With the international break now over, it was back to club colours for our Matildas Abroad.

The opening weekend of the Women's Super League (WSL) was postponed due to the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, however, the season began in France while the action continued in Sweden, the USA and Norway for our Matildas Abroad.

Kicking off in the USA, Emily Van Egmond's San Diego Wave FC went down 4-3 to the reigning NWSL champions Washington Spirit. Jaedyn Shaw opened the scoring for Wave, with Van Egmond finding the 17-year-old unmarked at the back post.

Spirit bounced back with three goals to head into the break 3-1 up. Alex Morgan scored from the spot in the second half to claw back a goal and then doubled her tally from a corner with less than 10 minutes left in the game, with Van Egmond setting up the American from a corner kick.

Washington had the chance to seal all three points from the spot, with Ashley Hatch slotting her penalty past Kailen Sheridan in the 10th minute of stoppage time.

Over in North Carolina, Alex Chidiac's Racing Louisville fell 5-1 to North Carolina Courage. Goals from Kerolin, Debinha and Tess Boade helped Courage to their sixth win of the season.

Nadia Nadim got a goal back for Racing, but the visitors were unable to find the back of the net again. Chidiac remained an unused substitute on the bench.

Meanwhile, Chloe Logarzo's Kansas City Current extended their unbeaten streak to 13 games with a 1-0 win over Gotham FC.

Logarzo was named on the bench for the first time this season, however, did not make an appearance in the narrow win.

Kansas' goal came from the spot, with American Hailie Mace sealing all three points that saw Current move to the top of the table.

France

Next up, Lydia Williams' Paris Saint-Germain started their D1 season with a 2-0 win over ASJ Soyaux-Charente, where Williams did not feature in the matchday squad for PSG.

New signing Lieke Martens opened the scoring in the 5th minute before Kadidiatou Diani doubled the advantage just before the halftime break. PSG have a busy schedule upcoming, continuing their D1 season as well as aiming to qualify for the UWCL group stage.

Sweden

Moving over to Sweden, Aivi Luik's BK Häcken beat Umeå IK 5-0, as Häcken sits just four points behind third place.

Luik did not appear in the matchday squad for the home side, however, in her absence her side got the job done. A hat-trick to Pauline Hammarlund and goals to Anna Csiki and Mille Gejl sealed the emphatic win.

Aussies went head-to-head when Elise Kellond-Knight, Kyra Cooney-Cross and Courtney Nevin's Hammarby hosted Teagan Micah's FC Rosengård.

Kellond-Knight and Micah both started for their respective sides and it was the hosts that got off to the dream start, with Madelen Janogy netting a brace in the first half.

Cooney-Cross replaced fellow Aussie Kellond-Knight in the heart of Hammarby's midfield and helped seal the 2-0 win over Rosengård. Nevin remained an unused substitute on the bench for the winners.

Norway

Our last stop takes us to Norway, where Tameka Yallop's SK Brann Kvinner beat Vålerenga 2-1 in the first round of the Championship round.

Vålerenga opened the scoring in the first minute, but Brann found the response in the 51st minute through Therese Åsland. Maraia Brochmann scored with 20 minutes left to seal the win. Yallop did not appear in the matchday squad.
