UWCL and Conti Cup Review: Fowler scores in Conti Cup; Arsenal & Chelsea remain at the top in UWCL

Mary Fowler found the back of the net in the Conti Cup for Manchester City, while Arsenal and Chelsea remain at the top of their groups in the UWCL.

UWCL

Group A

Sam Kerr's Chelsea closed in on a quarter-finals spot after a 1-1 draw away to Real Madrid, conceding their first goal of the group stage.

Kerr struck the woodwork twice in the opening half but it was the home side that would take the lead into the break, Ann-Katrin Berger's slip allowed Caroline Weir to open the scoring for Real Madrid.

Guro Reiten sealed the equaliser from the spot after being brought down in the box, her shot hitting the post and deflecting into the back of the net off goalkeeper Misa Rodríguez.

Chelsea still remains at the top of Group A with 10 points, facing last-placed Vllaznia in their next UWCL outing. 

Meanwhile, Lydia Williams' Paris Saint-Germain made it two wins in the group stage to move to second on the ladder after a 4-0 win away to Vllaznia.

Kadidiatou Diani scored two goals in the first half to give the visitors the lead going into the break, before Ramona Bachmann and substitute Magnaba Folquet added their names to the scoresheet to seal the win and keep PSG's chances at progressing to the next round alive. Williams remained on the bench in the win.

Group C

Steph Catley and Caitlin Foord's Arsenal recorded a 1-0 win over Juventus, putting one foot into the quarter-finals as they remain undefeated in first place in the group. 

The Gunners move three points clear at the top of the table after Vivienne Miedema scored the only goal of the game in the 17th minute, putting them on the brink of qualification.

Foord and Catley both started for the home side, with Catley named Player of the Match in the victory. 

Ellie Carpenter's Lyon recorded their second win of the group stage, beating Zürich 4-0 to move to second on the table and put themselves in the perfect position to qualify with two games remaining in the group stage.  

Lindsey Horan opened the scoring for the home side, and Melvine Malard added two goals in the second half with Delphine Cascarino wrapped up the win with Lyon's fourth in stoppage time.

Group D

Lastly, Teagan Micah's FC Rosengård faced a tough 3-1 defeat to Benfica, with the away side coming from behind to seal their second win in the group stage. 

Olivia Schough opened the scoring on the half-hour mark for Rosengård, before Benfica's Cloé Lacasse found the back of the net twice to give Benfica a 2-1 lead going into the break.

Nycole Raysla sealed all three points with Benfica's third of the night, Micah was replaced in goals after a collision with Lacasse. Rosengård is no longer able to qualify for the quarter-finals after the defeat.

Conti Cup

Mary Fowler, Hayley Raso and Alanna Kennedy's Manchester City extended their unbeaten run in all competitions to 9 games as the Conti Cup defending champions recorded a 2-0 win over Liverpool.

All three Australians made the start for City, with Kennedy playing her first 90 minutes since returning from a shoulder injury sustained in October.

After a goalless first half, Filippa Angeldal opened the scoring for the visitors. Fowler got her name on the scoresheet, linking up with Lauren Hemp to double City's lead and see them move to the top of Group B. 

Meanwhile, Clare Wheeler's Everton went down 4-2 to Manchester United have a tough battle. Five goals in the first half saw the Toffees go into the break trailing 4-1.

Karen Holmgaard scored a late goal for Everton in the 92nd minute, but couldn't help Everton seal a draw with Wheeler not appearing in the matchday squad. 

Lastly, Emily Gielnik's Aston Villa kept their spot at the top of Group A with a 2-1 win over Sheffield United. Goals to Kirsty Hanson and Kenza Dali in the first half gave the Villans a 2-0 lead going into the break.

Mia Enderby clawed a goal back for Sheffield from the spot, but the away side held on to collect all three points. Gielnik came off the bench in the win, replacing goalscorer Hanson for the final 20 minutes.
