Growing up in the west with a brother as an AFL star, Kerr spent most of her childhood with "a footy in her hand”.

But after playing footy with the boys got too rough for the teenager, she switched to football (soccer), although the transition wasn’t easy.

“When soccer started I was like ‘I’m not sure if this is for me’,” Kerr says.

“Going from one of the better players in AFL to being on a soccer team. I was woeful.”

Kerr would go on to fall in love with football, making her national team debut at just 15 to now being on the cusp of leading the Westfield Matildas to this year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup in France.

“The last three or four years I’ve been my stubborn self and its allowed me to be the best person I am,” she explains.

“As an athlete, it’s that never-ending thing that you always want more, you always want to be better.

“I want to win a World Cup, I want to win an Olympic medal but I just want to keep enjoying myself.”
