UWCL Review: Matchday two in the group stage

The UEFA Women's Champions League group stage continues on Thursday morning with Matchday 2 action around Europe. 

All games group stage games will be streamed for free within Australia on DAZN and shown live on their YouTube channel.

Group A

Sam Kerr's Chelsea will be aiming to make it back-to-back wins in the UWCL group stage after a 1-0 win over PSG in Paris last week when they host Albanian side Vllaznia.

Vllaznia suffered a 2-0 defeat in their opening group stage game, while a Millie Bright matchwinner against PSG sealed the first win of the group stage for the Blues. 


Meanwhile, Lydia Williams' Paris Saint-Germain will be looking to pick up their first win of the group stage when they travel to take on Real Madrid. The 2021-22 UWCL quarter-finalists were unable to find the back of the net in their first fixture against Chelsea and will need all three points to ensure they secure another spot in the quarter-finals.

Group C

Caitlin Foord and Steph Catley's Arsenal will be looking to replicate their opening game 5-1 victory over the reigning UWCL champions, Olympique Lyonnais when they host Swiss-based side FC Zürich Frauen. 

FC Zürich Frauen went down 2-0 to Juventus in their opening fixture, Arsenal has a history against their Zürich in the competition, beating them 2008/09 second qualifying round. 


Foord scored a double in Arsenal's win over Lyon last week, making an immediate impact for the Gunners.

Meanwhile, Ellie Carpenter's Olympique Lyonnais will be in search of their first win of the group stage against Juventus, a side they knocked out 3-4 on aggregate in last season's UWCL quarter-finals.

Group D

Lastly, Teagan Micah's FC Rosengård will be in for a tough challenge in their second game of the group stage, hosting Spanish side and former champions, FC Barcelona.


After taking the lead early in their opening game of the group stage, Rosengård was narrowly beaten by FC Bayern München 2-1, with Micah making four key saves. 

Barcelona recorded a dominant 9-0 win over SL Benfica as they look to reclaim the title after being beaten in last season's final.
