Sam Kerr nominated for BBC Women's Footballer of the Year 2019

Westfield Matildas captain Sam Kerr has been shortlisted for BBC Women's Footballer of the Year 2019.

Kerr, 25, is one of five players in the running for the award, which is now in its fifth year.

The Perth Glory and Chicago Red Stars striker had an incredible 2018/19 season, winning the Westfield W-League and NWSL Golden Boot awards.

Kerr has started 2019 in stunning fashion, scoring 14 goals for club and country already, which included captaining the Matildas to Cup of Nations success.

"The most rewarding thing for me (in the last 12 months) was back-to-back golden boots - in the NWSL and W League," Kerr told BBC.

"I needed that season to prove to myself I could continually score. It's given me confidence going forward and it's my proudest moment."

Kerr added: "It would be great to win this award so I can share it with my team-mates. It's not all been about me.

"Winning this award would be a nod to all the girls who have helped me in the team and given us success over the last year."
