Sam Kerr, Alexia Putellas and Jennifer Hermoso make up the finalist for the prestigious award, with the winner set to be announced at a virtual awards ceremony that will be broadcast live from the Home of FIFA in Zurich on 17 January.

Since joining the Blues, Kerr has won five titles and was Chelsea's top goalscorer from the 2020/21 season, scoring 21 goals from 22 games to secure the WSL Golden Boot.

She is also the first player to ever win the golden boot across three different leagues and recently captained the Commonwealth Bank Matildas to their best-ever Olympic placing when they finished fourth at Tokyo 2020.

Kerr's naming on the final shortlist comes just months after bringing in the bronze at the Ballon d'Or, with all three players making the final shortlist in the top 3 of the Ballon d'Or.

This denotes the first time Kerr has made the top 3, coming in 7th place in the 2020 award ceremony with 20 points for the Matildas number 20.

Carli Lloyd (2016), Lieke Martens (2017), Marta (2018), Megan Rapinoe (2019) and Lucy Bronze (2020) are all previous winners of the award.
