Players and fans react to Laura Brock and Aivi Luik's retirement

As Laura Brock and Aivi Luik shared news of their retirement from the Matildas, Australia's football community joined together in showing their appreciation for two of our much-loved departing players.

The love for Laura and Aivi was felt from all around the world, with players, family, friends and fans sharing their appreciation for the service these dedicated women gave to their country over their combined 21 years of playing time. 

Fans shared their favourite memories and fellow players congratulated the two on incredible careers on the national team, Laura and Aivi will be sorely missed by players and fans alike. 

Players such as Chloe Logarzo, Katrina Gorry, Karly Roestbakken and Alex Chidiac showed love on social media, with each singing high praise for Brock and Luik. 


Logarzo expressed how much she was going to miss Brock, her 'Superwoman,' who would sing the Alicia Keys song to her, as a pre-game pump up, while Gorry reminisced on their time together at a junior level representing Mt Gravatt Hawks FC, to playing for their country together.

Roestbakken and Chidiac thanked both players for mentoring them in their football careers, saying they wouldn't be where they were today without the two. 

Fans spoke about the sadness of losing some of their favourite players, yet thanked them for the wonderful memories and wished them all the best.
