Plaudits flow for Westfield Matildas centurion Polkinghorne

Widespread praise has poured in for Clare Polkinghorne after the defender became the sixth Westfield Matilda to notch 100 international caps.

Australia's co-captain reached the milestone mark in the 0-0 draw with Portugal at the Algarve Cup on Saturday morning.

She joins Anissa Tann, Joey Peters, current team-mate Lisa De Vanna, Heather Garriock and all-time appearance leader Cheryl Salisbury in the century club.

The 29-year-old has been a mainstay of the national team since debuting against China in 2006.

Polkinghorne has attended three FIFA Women's World Cups and three AFC Women's Asian Cups, winning the latter tournament in 2010.

She achieved her "dream" of competing at the Olympic Games as an integral member of the squad that reached the quarter-finals at Rio 2016.

A foundation player at the then-Queensland Roar, Polkinghorne won the double in the Westfield W-League's inaugural season.

The versatile Queenslander was appointed captain in 2009 and has led the club to two further premierships as well as 2011 Grand Final glory.

Polkinghorne has scored eight goals across her century of international appearances.

She could play game number 101 against China PR early Tuesday morning (2:00am AEDT).
