Matildas at Home: Sydney FC and Melbourne Victory face-off in Grand Final rematch

The 2021/22 A-League Women's Grand Final kicks off today, a rematch of last season's decider with Sydney FC hosting Melbourne Victory once again.

The minor premiers Sydney FC will be looking to get redemption over Victory when they host the side from Melbourne in this season's grand final.

Melbourne Victory's Kyra Cooney-Cross will be hoping to cause an upset to the Sky Blue's in back-to-back deciders, having scored the winner in extra-time.

Sydney FC has had their strongest season thus far, only recording one loss in the season and breaking the record for the longest time without concerning a goal when they went over 12 hours without being scored against.

Victory on the other hand had a rocky season, leaking five goals to crosstown rivals Melbourne City and just scraping through to the final series in fourth place, relying solely on goal difference to make it through.

Sky Blues' Cortnee Vine, Jada Whyman, Mackenzie Hawkesby, Nat Tobin, Ally Green, Taylor Ray and Rachel Lowe all come into this game off the back of being voted on the PFA's A-League Women's Team of the Season. While Alex Chidiac represented Victory in the team.

Victory have had their fair share of injuries leading into the final, losing skipper Kayla Morrison in the first round to an ACL injury.

The two sides only met once during the regular season, with nothing between the two sides in a 2-2 draw. Remy Siemsen scored in the game, while Victory came from 2-0 down to steal two points from Sydney in the final minutes of the game.

Sydney FC go into the game having a week off after beating Melbourne City in extra time, while Victory showed a clinical display in their 3-1 win last weekend to book their spot in the final.

If the last meeting between these two sides is anything to go by, fans will be in for another blockbuster Grand Final, kicking off at 4:05 pm AEDT today on 10 Bold and Paramount+.
