The round began on Friday night when Melbourne Victory delighted their home fans by comprehensively defeating the Western Sydney Wanderers 4-0. Victory was the dominant side from the first whistle, and the Wanderers had no answers. American McKenzie Weinert scored a brace but it was Emily Gielnik who stole the show – her two goals included an audacious chip from near the halfway line. Alex Chidiac and Elise Kellond-Knight also both started the match for Victory, with Kellond-Knight picking up an assist.

Sophie Harding played the full match for the Wanderers, but there was little she could do in the face of the home side’s performance. Meanwhile, Lydia Williams remains unavailable for Victory after undergoing ankle surgery.

The match between Canberra United and Sydney FC was postponed after only 30 minutes of play due to lightning strikes in the area. Cortnee Vine, Jada Whyman and Michelle Heyman all took part, but the fixture will have to take place at a later date – it was called off before one full half of play. The game marked Vine's 100th Liberty A-League appearance.

A Sarina Bolden hattrick delighted fans in Maitland as the Newcastle Jets defeated Brisbane Roar 3-0. In a game of few chances Bolden was the player who capitalised, the Philippines international is now second on the Golden Boot standings with 11 goals from 12 games. Tameka Yallop played the full match for the Roar.

Western United dominated an undermanned Wellington Phoenix side on Sunday, defeating them 3-0. Chloe Logarzo scored first before Grace Maher and Hannah Keane made sure of the result in the second half. The result puts Western United on top of the table by one point with five rounds remaining in the season. Logarzo started the match before being withdrawn after 83 minutes.

The team that Western United replaced at the top of the table, Melbourne City, drew with Adelaide United 1-1. City will count themselves unlucky after a second-half Daniela Galic goal was cancelled out by an own goal only minutes later. Galic will be pleased to depart as a CommBank Matildas train-on player in the best possible way – off the back of a goal – but will be disappointed that her side could not get over the line against the 11th-placed Reds.

The final game of the round saw Kyah Simon find the back of the net for the first time this season, helping her side to a 3-1 victory in Perth. The home side opened the scoring in the 25th minute through Millie Farrow, before Simon nodded in the equaliser in first-half stoppage time.

Goals to Biana Galic and Annalise Rasmussen late in the second half handed Mariners their 7th win of the season as they move into 5th place.
