The round begins on Friday evening, as the Central Coast Mariners host Melbourne City at 7pm AEDT. City will be hoping for three points to reclaim first place from Perth Glory, while a win for the Mariners will keep them in touch with the top six. Kyah Simon is yet to appear in a matchday squad for the Mariners, while Holly McNamara continues her recovery from an ACL tear for City.

Golden boot leader Vesna Milivojevic has been cleared of serious injury and has been named in the extended squad for Canberra United, as they travel to Aami Park to take on Melbourne Victory on Saturday, 5pm AEDT. Elise Kellond-Knight was a standout for Victory last week and she’ll be hoping to continue her form, while Lydia Williams is searching for her third clean sheet of the season for the Melbourne side. Emily Gielnik is unavailable with injury.

Canberra’s win last week means that Adelaide United are the only winless side left in the competition. They have a tough task to change their circumstances this week, taking on high-flying Wellington Phoenix on Saturday, 5.30pm AEDT. However, the return of Australian u23 striker Chelsie Dawber could prove the catalyst for the Reds to turn their form around.

Emily van Egmond will play her final match for the Newcastle Jets in her four-game guest stint as they take on Western United on Sunday, 5pm AEDT. The 30-year-old has had a tremendous impact on her hometown club, with two goals and two assists so far, and will be hoping to inspire them to one more victory on Sunday. Chloe Logarzo is expected to continue in her attacking midfield role for Western United.

Brisbane Roar will be looking to bounce back from their crushing loss to Canberra United last week as they host Western Sydney Wanderers on Sunday, 6pm AEDT. By contrast, the Wanderers are riding the wave of some good form, led by five goals in three games from striker Sophie Harding. Tameka Yallop will be key for Brisbane and is expected to start for the team in orange.

The final game of the round is one worth staying up for, despite the late start for viewers in the east. Current league leaders Perth Glory will take on defending champions Sydney FC on Sunday, 10pm AEDT. It is a tantalising clash made only more exciting by the inclusion of Cortnee Vine for Sydney, after her return to the team – and the goalscoring column – last week against Newcastle.
