The Mariners finished Round One as the best defensive team in the competition and they will need all of their defensive nous to hold off what looked to be a rampant Western.

Melbourne Victory v Melbourne City

Tickets: Ticketek

In a season where both City and Victory are expected to do well, this early Melbourne Derby is as crucial as ever.

Emily Gielnik scored a brace last week and will spearhead Victory’s attack again in the derby. Alex Chidiac remains an influential force in midfield and will hope to lift the team in navy blue.

City recovered from a two-goal deficit last week to blow Perth Glory away. Rhianna Pollicina and CommBank Young Matilda Kahli Johnson are in line to make a big impact once again.

Brisbane Roar v Sydney FC

Date: Saturday, 9 November
Kickoff: 4pm AEDT
Venue: Perry Park
Broadcast: 10Play and Paramount+
Tickets: Ticketek

These two traditional giants of the league will be hoping to get their first points on the board in Round 2.

Sharn Freier and Tameka Yallop combined to assist Brisbane’s first goal last week and will be hoping to be able to do similar against Sydney FC.

The Sky Blues will be hoping that their CommBank Young Matildas like Shay Hollman and Indiana Dos Santos can help them overcome the Roar away from home.

Wellington Phoenix v Canberra United

Date: Sunday, 10 November
Kickoff: 2pm AEDT
Venue: Porirua Park
Broadcast: 10Play and Paramount+
Tickets: Flicket

The Phoenix will be hoping to make full use of their home ground advantage for the first time this season when they take on Canberra United.

Wellington showed promising signs last week but they need to be more defensively stable if they are to improve on last season’s result. Kiwi internationals like Alyssa Whinham and Mackenzie Barry will be key to their success.

Michelle Heyman didn’t score last week, but she was ever-present in Canberra’s attacking play. Heyman is as close to a guarantee of goals as possible in this competition – she’ll be hoping to get off the mark on Sunday.

Western Sydney Wanderers v Adelaide United

Date: Sunday, 10 November
Kickoff: 3pm AEDT
Venue: Wanderers Football Park
Broadcast: 10Play and Paramount+
Tickets: Ticketmaster

The Wanderers will be hoping to delight their home fans with their first three points against Adelaide United on Sunday.

Sophie Harding was on the scoresheet last week and will be vital again this weekend to the Wanderers chances of building on their draw in Round 1.

Adelaide United, meanwhile, showed incredibly promising signs in their defeat and will back themselves to get the result on Sunday.

Perth Glory v Newcastle Jets

Date: Sunday, 10 November
Kickoff: 6pm AEDT
Venue: HBF Park
Broadcast: 10Play and Paramount+
Tickets: Ticketmaster

The final match of the round is another unpredictable one, with Perth Glory hosting Newcastle Jets.

Perth went two goals up against Melbourne City last week, but weren’t able to hold onto the lead. Defenders such as CommBank Young Matildas Naomi Chinnama and Tijan McKenna will be the key if they are to hold off the Jets this time out.

Newcastle were rampant against the Wanderers in Round 1 but it wasn’t enough to secure three points. CommBank Young Matilda Lara Gooch made a big difference off the bench and will be available again this time out.
