Matildas at Home: The kids are alright

The Commonwealth Bank Matildas are returning to their clubs and the A-League Women's is heating up with games and goals galore.

Journey to 2023 - Thin Banner

Jada Whyman created a piece of history as Sydney FC defeated Brisbane Roar 2-0. Whyman overtook Lydia Williams as the goalkeeper with the most clean sheets in the A-League Women, notching up her eighth consecutive clean sheet.

She was made to work for it with Brisbane creating a few chances. However, between Whyman's solid work between the sticks and Sydney's firepower in attack, the team in blue extended its lead at the top of the table.

Charlie Rule was in fine form, setting up Maria Cote Rojas for the first before heading home the second. It was her third goal for the season before she was replaced by Jess Nash

It was not the result Katrina Gorry, Jamilla Rankin and their Roar teammates were looking for.

Dylan Holmes' Adelaide United were 3-0 winners over Newcastle Jets. Fiona Worts bagged a brace; firstly a classy shot from cramped quarters followed with a poacher's finish. Chelsie Dawber won and converted a penalty to make it three for the Reds.

Melbourne Victory returned to action and lived up to their name with a 2-0 win over Wellington Phoenix. Alex Chidiac was once again heavily involved in the centre of the park.

Sixteen-year-old Alana Murphy scored her first-ever A-League Women goal before Chidiac set up Tiffany Eliadis for her debut goal.

There was chaos in the capital with Canberra and Perth sharing the spoils after a 3-3 draw.

Grace Maher's penalty got proceedings underway before Cyera Hintzen scored either side of halftime with Liz Anton profiting from the confusion of corner to ensure Glory got out to a 3-1 lead.

But the team in green wasn't done with Chelsee Washington scoring a header and Lauren Keir tapping in from close range to see the points shared.

Fresh off Commonwealth Bank Matildas duty, Holly McNamara was back into the starting line-up for Melbourne City and making her presence known.

Emma Checker nearly got her side off to a great start with her shot hitting the woodwork, but it would be Rhianna Pollicina who got City going following some good work from McNamara and Hannah Wilkinson.

McNamara would then score City's second and her second for the season. Her fancy footwork created the space she needed to fire off a shot into the back of the net.

The Wanderers got one back not long after with Bryleeh Henry teeing up Teigan Collister. Her shot through a mass of legs nestled its way into the near post.
