Matildas Abroad: Wave and Kansas face off; action returns in Denmark

San Diego looks to maintain their spot at the top of the table up against Kansas; while Fortuna kick off their season in Denmark. 

Fortuna Hjørring play their first game of the Elitedivisionen season,  while our Matildas Abroad will be in action in the USA, Norway and Denmark.

Kicking off in the USA, Alex Chidiac's Racing Louisville come into their game against the Washington Spirit after a 1-1 draw in their midweek clash with OL Reign. 


Racing is winless in their last nine games, however, they come up against a Washington side who, although claiming the NSWL title last season, has now not recorded a win in 13 games. Louisville and Washington played to a 2-2 draw earlier this season, with Racing hoping they can get all three points against Spirit.

Moving over to San Diego, Emily Van Egmond's ladder leaders San Diego Wave FC will host Chloe Logarzo's Kansas City Current. 

Wave FC will be aiming to hold on to the top of the ladder, and increase their one-point lead, up against a Kansas side that comes into the game on a sizzling eight-game unbeaten streak. 


Van Egmond has featured in all 14 games for San Diego, helping them record seven wins in their inaugural NWSL season.

Moving over to Denmark, Matilda McNamara could be in line for her debut for AGF when they take on Kolding IF in their opening game of the Elitedivisionen. The two sides will play the opening game of the tournament at 3:00 am AEST on Saturday morning.

Meanwhile, Clare Wheeler and Angie Beard's Fortuna Hjørring will open their campaign against Sundby, who were promoted from the Women's League. 

Fortuna sealed UWCL football this season and will begin the competition on the 19th of August against Eintracht Frankfurt. 

Clare Wheeler was named Player of the Season for Fortuna last season and will be aiming to continue her form again this season. 

This game kicks off on Sunday morning at 12 am AEST. 

Our last stop takes us to Norway, where Tameka Yallop's new side SK Brann Kvinner will be aiming to extend their lead at the top of the table when they host fifth-place Lyn. 


Yallop made her debut for her new side in their midweek 6-0 win over Arna-Bjørnar, with her side looking to confirm their spot in next season's UWCL. 

This game kicks off on Sunday night at 11 pm AEST.
