Matildas Abroad: Season returns in Sweden; pre-season friendly for Spurs in the USA

The Season returns in Sweden; while Tottenham Hotspur begins their pre-season in The Women's Cup in Louisville. 

Kicking this off in Sweden after a two-month break, the Damallsvenskan continues in their autumn season. Clare Polkinghorne and Katrina Gorry's Vittsjö GIK will be aiming to continue their run to the top three up against Kristianstads DFF.

Kristianstads began their autumn season last weekend, defeating IFK Kalmar 2-0, however, they still remain three points behind first-placed FC Rosengård. 


Gorry and Polkinghorne both played a full 90-minute game in Vittsjö's final game before the break, going down 2-1 to KIF Örebro DFF. 

This game will kick off on Saturday morning at 2 am AEST

MAT v CAN SYD Match Annoucement


Over in Eskilstuna, Elise Kellond-Knight could be in line for her much-anticipated return to competitive football when Hammarby takes on Eskilstuna United.

Kellond-Knight made an appearance in Hammarby's autumn pre-season game against Linköping, while Kyra Cooney-Cross and Courtney Nevin started in the game for Hammarby.


Both sides are still on the hunt to make the top three and qualify for next season's UWCL. This game will kick off on Sunday night at 11 pm AEST

Lastly in Sweden, Remy Siemsen's AIK are doing everything they can to remain in the OBOS Damallsvenskan, and avoid relegation, when they take on Piteå IF.

AIK have only recorded two wins so far in the season, with one of these coming against Piteå in a 1-0 victory in June. This game will kick off on Sunday night at 11 pm AEST.  

Moving over to the USA, Alex Chidiac's Racing Louisville take on Houston Dash. Houston is fighting to take first place on the ladder and will want to keep the momentum going, while Louisville is still in the playoff hunt.

Ebony Salmon, who was traded from Louisville to Houston just a few weeks ago, will face her former club for the first time. The English international has been on fire for the Dash since making the move, scoring six goals in her last three games. 

This game will kick off on Saturday morning at 10:30 am AEST.   

Moving over to North Carolina, the Courage host Chloe Logarzo's Kansas City Current. 

Kansas comes into the game off the back of a 2-1 win over Wave FC and on a nine-game unbeaten run. While Courage is stuck at the bottom of the table with only two wins. This game will kick off on Sunday morning at 10 am AEST.   

Emily van Egmond's San Diego Wave FC will be aiming to bounce back from just their second defeat of the season when they host Orlando Pride on Sunday.

Van Egmond will be up against her former side, Pride, who have faced three consecutive draws, their last coming in a 2-2 showing with Angel City.

Wave FC has a strong record at home, having only faced one defeat on home soil, and is still in contention for first place. 

This game will kick off on Sunday at 12:30 pm AEST.  

Meanwhile, Kyah Simon's Tottenham Hotspur kick off their pre-season in The Women's Cup, facing Mexico City-based Club América.


This will be the Spurs' first-ever international tour, with AC Milan, OL Reign, Club América, Tokyo Verdy and Racing Louisville all competing for the trophy. 

This game will kick off on Monday morning at 9 am AEST.  

Moving over to Denmark, Clare Wheeler and Angie Beard's Fortuna Hjørring host AGF. 

Fortuna came away with a 2-1 win to start their season and will be aiming to keep these results coming as they compete in the UWCL next week. While AGF recorded a 1-1 draw to begin their season. This game will kick off on Saturday night at 9 pm AEST.    

Winonah Heatley's FC Nordsjælland will face KoldingQ, aiming to record their first win of the season after going down 3-1 in their opening fixture. This game will kick off on Sunday night at 11 pm AEST.    

Lastly, Tameka Yallop's SK Brann Kvinner play their penultimate game of the season, hosting Stabæk. Brann sits at the top of the table, five points clear of their nearest competitors. 

Yallop scored her first goal for her new side in their 4-0 win over Lyn. This game will kick off on Sunday morning at 1 am AEST.
