Matildas Abroad Review: Logarzo hits scoreboard, Carpenter’s winning streak continues, Simon back in action

Chloe Logarzo found the net in England, and Ellie Carpenter is on a team that seems to have forgotten how to lose. There was more good news in the Netherlands as Kyah Simon returned to the PSV lineup.

England

Caitlin Foord played a full game in Arsenal’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea, while Lydia Williams was an unused substitute for the Gunners. Chelsea brought on Sam Kerr as a halftime substitute and needed a 90th minute equaliser to rescue a point. Foord was desperately unlucky not to score, performing the rare feat of hitting the crossbar twice with a single shot.

Bristol City (featuring Chloe Logarzo) earned their first FA WSL point of the season, thanks to a 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur. Logarzo opened the scoring from the penalty spot and was subbed off in the 57th minute. Alanna Kennedy played 90 minutes for Tottenham.

Hayley Raso got another full game under her belt as Everton drew 1-1 with Reading. The result means Everton remain in fourth place.

There were also full games for West Ham United’s Aussie duo, however Mackenzie Arnold and Emily Van Egmond were unable to prevent their side from losing 1-0 at home to Brighton & Hove Albion.

France

Ellie Carpenter’s Olympique Lyonnais are still perfect in the D1 Arkema – they recorded their eighth win in the opening eight rounds after defeating Soyaux 5-1. Carpenter was subbed off in the 67th minute.

Mary Fowler received 90 minutes of playing time, however her Montpellier side lost 1-0 to Dijon and have dropped to fourth on the table.

Laura Brock was another Westfield Matilda to get a full game as Guingamp drew 1-1 with Paris FC. Brock played the full 90 minutes as Guingamp continued to pick up points.

Spain

Sevilla welcomed Aivi Luik back into the starting lineup, and the Westfield Matilda played 90 minutes in their 3-0 victory over Espanyol. The win is Sevilla’s third in a row and moves them up into seventh place.

Alex Chidiac was an unused substitute as Atlético Madrid defeated Real Betis 4-1. Atlético now occupy second place in the Primera Iberdrola.

Netherlands

Both of PSV’s Westfield Matildas saw the pitch on the weekend, however the result didn’t go their way as they lost 3-2 to Twente.

Amy Harrison was subbed off in the 59th minute, while Kyah Simon returned to action as a halftime substitute.

Sweden

Emily Gielnik was unable to finish her Damallsvenskan campaign on a winning note. The Westfield Matildas forward played a full game as Vittsjö were defeated 3-1 by champions Göteborg.

Norway

Our Norwegian-based Westfield Matildas cooled their heels on the weekend. The game between Sandviken and Avaldsnes (featuring Katrina Gorry and Clare Polkinghorne) was postponed, as was the match between Karly Roestbakken’s LSK Kvinner and Lyn.
