Matildas Abroad Preview: Chelsea plays Portland Thorns; while Wave aim to reclaim first place

Chelsea plays in the third place Women's International Champions Cup game against Portland Thorns, while the season heats up in the USA.

MAT v CAN BRI Match Annoucement


Kicking off in the USA, Chloe Logarzo's Kansas City Current is aiming to break a crowd attendance record and extend their unbeaten run to 11 when they host Angel City FC. 

Angel City comes into this game off a 1-0 win over the Chicago Red Stars last weekend, while Kansas City came from behind to beat the North Carolina Courage 4-3. 

This game will kick off on Saturday morning at 10 am AEST.   

Emily van Egmond's San Diego Wave FC will be aiming to bounce back from two consecutive losses when they host the Houston Dash on Sunday. 

Houston comes into this game on a five-game unbeaten run, while San Diego fell 1-0 to the Pride and has now lost consecutive matches for the first time in franchise history.


Wave FC will be hoping to get some points, being dethroned of first place last weekend and still aiming to qualify for playoffs in their inaugural season. 

This game will kick off on Sunday at 12 pm AEST.   

Alex Chidiac's Racing Louisville will be contesting for their second 'The Women's Cup' in as many seasons as they host OL Reign on Sunday morning. 

Louisville progressed to the final after beating AC Milan 2-0 in midweek action. 

Meanwhile, Sam Kerr's Chelsea will face Portland Thorns in the third place match of the Women's International Champions Cup.


Chelsea faced Lyon in their first match of the competition on Wednesday, where Kerr scored the opener, however, they went down on penalties to see them go into the third-place match. 

This game will kick off on Sunday morning at 10 am AEST, fans can watch it on the DAZN YouTube Page. 

MAT v CAN SYD Match Annoucement

Moving over to Sweden, Aivi Luik's BK Häcken host KIF Örebro DFF in their return to the season following the break. 

Häcken currently sits in fourth, eight points behind third place. Luik's side was on a three-game winning run before the season ended, and will be aiming to pick up right where they left off.


This game will kick off on Saturday morning at 2 am AEST.

Meanwhile, Teagan Micah's FC Rosengård return to action and will be looking to extend their lead at the top of the table when they host Piteå.

This will be Rosengård's first game back since the season kicked back off, while their opponents have already played two games.

Remy Siemsen's AIK is doing everything they can to remain in the OBOS Damallsvenskan, and avoid relegation when they host Umeå IK.

AIK have only recorded two wins so far in the season, and is in desperate need of some points heading into the end of the season. This game will kick off on Sunday night at 9 pm AEST. 

Over in Stockholm, Elise Kellond-Knight, Kyra Cooney-Cross and Courtney Nevin's Hammarby will host Djurgårdens IF.

Kellond-Knight made her return for Hammarby last weekend in their 1-0 win over Eskilstuna United, while Cooney-Cross and Nevin also started in the win. 


Hammarby could jump from sixth-placed to fourth with a win, making up for their slow start to the season. This game will kick off on Sunday night at 11 pm AEST. 

Lastly, on Tuesday, Charli Grant could be in line for her debut for Vittsjö GIK when they host Eskilstuna United.

Grant joins Clare Polkinghorne and Katrina Gorry at Vittsjö, looking to climb up the ladder from seventh with a win over fifth place Eskilstuna.

This game will kick off on Tuesday morning at 2 am AEST.
