Matildas Abroad Preview: Arsenal and Manchester City destined for a rematch

Before the first international break of the year kicks off next week, our Matildas Abroad are in action in England before coming back to Australia for the Cup of Nations.

Kicking off in Manchester, a re-match of the Conti Cup semi-final throughout the week will see Mary Fowler, Hayley Raso and Alanna Kennedy's Manchester City host Steph Catley and Caitlin Foord's Arsenal.

The Gunners scored a late matchwinner to seal their spot in the Conti Cup final throughout the week, breaking City's 16-game unbeaten streak in all competitions.

Both sides are tied on points at the moment and will be aiming to keep in touch with Chelsea at the top of the table. 

This game will kick off on Saturday night at 11:30 pm AEDT. 

Meanwhile, Lydia Williams is still looking to make her debut for Brighton & Hove Albion when the Seagulls host Emily Gielnik's Aston Villa.

This will be a replay of last weekend's fixture where the game was held to a 1-1 draw, with goals in either half.


An own goal by defender Kayleigh Green gave Villa the lead going into the break, Julia Olme scored the equaliser for the away side in the last outing.

This game will kick off on Monday morning at 1:00 am AEDT. 

Lastly, Remy Siemsen and Courtney Nevin's Leicester City will be looking for their second win of the WSL season when they take on Liverpool.

The two sides met late last year in the Conti Cup group stage, with the Reds picking up a 4-0 win over the Foxes.


Simesen is yet to make her first appearance for Leicester but is training with her new side, while Nevin made her starting and WSL debut last weekend. 

This game will kick off on Monday morning at 1:00 am AEDT.
