Matildas Abroad & At Home: where to watch the Aussies in season 2023/24

Our guide will give you all the latest information on where to watch and how to tune in as our team plays across the globe in some of the top leagues in the world.

England

The biggest contingent of our 23-player FIFA Women's World Cup squad ply their trade in England with the Women's Super League with 10 players from the squad featuring in the league. 

Arsenal - Kyra Cooney-Cross, Steph Catley & Caitlin Foord

Two Aussies represent the Gunners in the WSL, with Steph Catley and Caitlin Foord claiming their first piece of silverware last season for Arsenal when they helped their side to a Conti Cup title.

Jonas Eidevall's side will be aiming to claim the WSL title for the first time since the 2018/19 season, looking to dethrone Chelsea's four-peat run.

Catley and Foord have been playing at Arsenal since the 2020/21 season, and both signed contract extensions with the club at the end of last season. 

Arsenal's first game of the WSL will see them host Liverpool on Monday the 2nd of October at 12am AEST, tune in on Optus Sport.

Chelsea - Sam Kerr

Sam Kerr helped Chelsea claim their fourth consecutive WSL title last season and their third consecutive Women's FA Cup trophy.

The team has signed a number of up-and-coming talent for the 2023/24 season after losing stalwarts Magdalena Eriksson and Pernille Harder to Bayern Munich at the end of last season.

The Blues are once again in contention for European football, qualifying for the UEFA Women's Champions League after finishing first in the league. 

Chelsea's first game of the WSL will see them host Tottenham Hotspur on Monday the 2nd of October at 3:30am AEST, tune in on Optus Sport.

Everton - Clare Wheeler

Clare Wheeler's Everton will be looking to go one better than their 6th-place finish last season when they kick off their WSL campaign against Brighton & Hove Albion.

The midfielder signed a new contract at the start of the year, making her loan move from Fortuna Hjørring in Denmark permanent. 

Everton's first game of the WSL will see them host Brighton on Sunday the 1st of October at 11pm AEST, tune in on Optus Sport.

Leicester City - Courtney Nevin

Courtney Nevin's Leicester City narrowly avoided relegation last season, sitting just five points clear of the drop. Nevin's loan move from Hammarby in Sweden midway through the season helped turn the Foxes' run around, recording 4 assists in 12 WSL appearances.

The defender made her loan deal permanent at Leicester leading into the Women's World Cup, Nevin is also joined by fellow Matilda at the club, Remy Siemsen.

Leicester's first game of the WSL will see them take on newly promoted Bristol City on Monday the 2nd of October at 12am AEST, tune in on Optus Sport.

Liverpool - Teagan Micah

Teagan Micah signed with Liverpool throughout the Women's World Cup, making the move from FC Rosengård in Sweden ahead of the new WSL season.

Micah could be set to make her WSL debut for the Reds in their season opener against Arsenal, looking to make her mark on Matt Beard's side. 

Liverpool's first game of the WSL will see them take on Arsenal on Monday the 2nd of October at 12am AEST, tune in on Optus Sport.

Manchester City - Mary Fowler & Alanna Kennedy

Mary Fowler and Alanna Kennedy's Manchester City just missed out on European football for this season, finishing the WSL season in fourth place and thus outside of the UEFA Champions League spots. 

Gareth Taylor's side has only two changes in personnel heading into the season so far, Aussie Hayley Raso leaving for Real Madrid and Jill Roord joining the club from Wolfsburg.

Manchester City's first game of the WSL will see them take on West Ham United on Monday the 2nd of October at 1am AEST, tune in on Optus Sport.

Tottenham Hotspur - Charli Grant

CommBank Matildas' defender Charli Grant has officially signed for Tottenham Hotspur, making the move from Vittsjö GIK following her contract ending in Sweden, signing with Spurs until 2026.

Grant joins the contingent of Australians playing in the WSL and will be set to make the North London derby very interesting, with Spurs taking on a trio of Aussies at Arsenal. 

West Ham United - Mackenzie Arnold & Katrina Gorry

Mackenzie Arnold's West Ham United finished 8th in the WSL last season, with Arnold named the 2022/23 Players' Player of the Season by her teammates.

Arnold recorded 8 clean sheets across all competitions for the Hammers, with five in the WSL. 

Katrina Gorry joins the likes of Mackenzie Arnold already representing the Hammers, with the goalkeeper captaining the side. The midfielder will look to bring her vast experience to a struggling West Ham United side that has only recorded one win so far in the WSL and is avoiding sitting at the bottom of the table by goal difference. 

West Ham United's first game of the WSL will see them host Manchester City on Monday the 2nd of October at 1am AEST, tune in on Optus Sport.

Australia

Brisbane Roar - Tameka Yallop

Tameka Yallop returns to Brisbane Roar for the upcoming season, signing a multi-year deal after stints in Norway and England. The midfielder returns to Roar after her last stint in the Liberty A-League back in 2018.

Brisbane's first game of the A-League Women's season will see them take on Melbourne Victory on Sunday the 15th of October at 4pm AEDT, tune in for free in Australia on 10Play or via Paramount+

Central Coast Mariners - Kyah Simon

CommBank Matildas' forward Kyah Simon has signed for the Central Coast Mariners in the Liberty A-League for the upcoming season, returning to the Mariners after her last stint with the side in the 2008/2009 inaugural season.

Simon joins the Mariners after spending the last two years with Tottenham Hotspur in the WSL and joins Emily Husband’s side for the upcoming season.

The forward could be in line for her return for the Mariners when they host Newcastle Jets in the F3 Derby on Saturday the 14th of October at 5pm AEDT, tune in for free in Australia on 10Play or via Paramount+.  

Melbourne Victory - Alex Chidiac & Lydia Williams

Alex Chidiac & Lydia Williams both have joined Melbourne Victory in the Liberty A-League on a two-year deal, returning to the Dub after stints in the USA, Mexico, England and France, respectively. 

Williams played in Melbourne City's last Championship winning team in the 2019/20 season and joins their cross-town rivals, Melbourne Victory for the upcoming season.

Chidiac made an appearance for Victory in the 2022/23 season, scoring 6 goals in 13 appearances for Melbourne before she returned to Racing Louisville following the end of her loan deal to Victory.

Despite only playing 13 games, out of the 20-game regular season, Chidiac won the Julie Dolan Medal as the best player of the season.

Melbourne Victory will kick off their Liberty A-League season against Brisbane Roar on Sunday the 15th of October at 4pm AEDT at the Home of the Matildas, tune in for free in Australia on 10Play or via Paramount+.  

Sydney FC - Cortnee Vine

Cortnee Vine signed a new deal with Sydney FC following her memorable FIFA Women's World Cup, looking to help the Sky Blues to another history-breaking season. Sydney FC claimed the double last season, lifting the Premiership and Championship, making it three consecutive Premierships.

Sydney FC will kick off their title defence in a Sydney Derby at Allianz Stadium, hosting the Western Sydney Wanderers on Saturday the 14th of October at 7:45pm AEDT, tune in for free in Australia on 10Play or via Paramount+

Sweden

The season is well underway in Sweden, with the league taking a break for the FIFA Women's World Cup. Five players in our 23-player squad currently play in the Damallsvenskan.

BK Häcken - Aivi Luik

Aivi Luik's BK Häcken currently sit at the top of the league table, with three points between them and second place as they look to lift the league title.

Häcken will be back in action this weekend in a top-of-the-table clash that will see them take on second-place Linköping on Saturday the 2nd of September at 3am AEST, tune in on viaplay. 

Kristianstads DFF - Clare Polkinghorne

CommBank Matildas' most-capped player, defender Clare Polkinghorne, has made the move to Kristianstads DFF in Sweden, leaving Vittsjö GIK.

Polkinghorne joins the likes of Amy Sayer already representing the Kristianstads, with the Aussie finishing her three-season stint with Vittsjö GIK.

USA

San Diego Wave - Emily van Egmond

The season in the USA is almost drawing to a close, with San Diego Wave having 5 games remaining in the regular season as they look to keep their spot in the top six to book their spot in a second consecutive play-off.

Although this is only their second year in the NWSL, Emily van Egmond's San Diego are quickly becoming a force to be reckoned with, the side were knocked out in the semi-finals by the eventual champions, Portland Thorns.

Wave will be in action next week when they host Houston Dash on Monday the 4th of September at 10am AEST, tune in for free in Australia on NWSL's site.

France

Olympique Lyonnais - Ellie Carpenter

Ellie Carpenter's Lyon had a season to remember last year, claiming the Division 1 Féminine title as well as lifting a record-breaking 10th Coupe de France Féminine.

The side is one of the most successful teams in Europe, claiming the UEFA Women's Champions League trophy 8 times, with their last victory coming in the 2021/22 season. 

The defending D1 champions will kick off their league campaign against Le Havre on Saturday the 16th of September, available to watch via ata football.

Paris Saint-Germain F.C - Clare Hunt

Clare Hunt has officially signed for Paris Saint-Germain for the upcoming Division 1 Féminine season on a three-year deal, signing her first overseas contract with the French side.

PSG finished second in the D1 last season, with Carpenter’s Lyon claiming the title and beating the side in the Coupe de France final.

Their season can be watched on ata football, while select games in the D1 Arkema will feature for free on DAZN's YouTube Channel. 

Spain

Real Madrid - Hayley Raso

Hayley Raso became the first-ever Australian to sign with Spanish giants, Real Madrid when she made the move to  'Los Blancos' after three years in the WSL. 

The winger will be hoping to help Real Madrid claim their first piece of silverware after the team fell agonizingly short of the illustrious first after going down 3-1 on penalties to Atlético Madrid in the Copa de la Reina final.
