The Westfield Matildas were showing off their set piece skills and securing important points in relegation battles across the continent. Here's a recap of the Australians abroad.
England
The Westfield Matildas in the FA WSL were showing off from dead ball situations with two spectacular free kicks scored by Australians this weekend.
Ella Mastrantonio’s 95th minute equaliser saw her Bristol side draw 2-2 with Aston Villa in this relegation battle. Her side still sits bottom, level on points with Villa who are above the Robins on goal difference, with two games to play.
Alanna Kennedy also proved to be deadly with a signature free kick to peg one back for Tottenham against Manchester United. It was her second goal from a free kick in as many games. The Red Devils were ultimately too strong, running out 4-1 winners.
The Arsenal bench had a distinctly Australian flavour with Lydia Williams and Caitlin Foord on the pine. Joining them for the first time after a long injury lay off was Steph Catley. Foord was the only one who saw minutes as Arsenal defeated Brighton 2-0.
The spoils were shared in the Aussie derby with Everton and West Ham drawing 0-0. Emily van Egmond ran out a full game while Hayley Raso was introduced for the final 10 minutes as both sides searched for a winner.
Sweden
Dylan Holmes was an unused sub in BK Häcken’s 2-0 win over Växjö DFF. Clare Polkinghorne and Emily Gielnik featured in Vittsjö’s 1-0 loss to KIF Örebro DFF.
