Squad News

Several of the CommBank Matildas’ established stars will return to international action later this month as head coach Tony Gustavsson named the 23-player squad to take on reigning Olympic Gold medallists, Canada, in Brisbane and Sydney.

September will also mark the homecoming of midfielder Chloe Logarzo who rejoins the squad after recovering from an ACL injury sustained almost 12 months ago. Meanwhile, forward Kyah Simon will continue her return to the pitch from an ankle injury in her club environment.

Sydney FC and APIA Leichhardt forward Princess Ibini-Isei will replace Manchester City’s Hayley Raso in the CommBank Matildas 23-player squad for the upcoming two-match international series against Canada.

Raso’s withdrawal comes due to an ankle injury with Ibini-Isei joining the squad in Brisbane for the second successive CommBank Matildas camp following her call-up in June.

Ibini-Isei recorded minutes in both games against Spain and Portugal, with the winger scoring her first senior international goal for Australia against Portugal in Estoril.

Our Opponent

Canada make their return to Australian soil after their last outing in 2008, when Australia hosted Canada back in 2008 when Australia won 2-1, hosting the side at the old Sydney Football Stadium on 23 May 2008, the site of the brand-new Allianz Stadium.

The North American side comes into this game off the back of qualifying for next year's FIFA Women's World Cup, finishing as runners-up in the 2022 CONCACAF W Championship, going down 1-0 to defending champions the USA.

Canada brings an experienced squad down under, with also some fresh new faces aiming to make a strong case to be added to the squad for next year's tournament.

Some key faces have been excluded from Canada's squad due to injury, with head coach Beverly Priestman seeing the benefits of bringing some new players into the fold.

"With six players out from the recent WCQ, this camp will now provide a brilliant opportunity for many players to gain valuable experience as we officially start our World Cup journey."
