The head coach was asked in the pre-match press conference about the return of striker Sam Kerr to the starting line up after fans got a glimpse at the forward during the victory over Denmark,"I want to be very clear in here now to say if Sam is fit to play 90 minutes, she is starting. There's not even a question and the team knows it."

"Whether she is ready to play 90 minutes plus extra time, that's to be decided tonight. But there is no question whatsoever that if she is, she is starting."

France cruised through qualification for the FIFA Women's World Cup, making their fourth consecutive World Cup. Les Bleues recorded 10 wins from 10 in the Group I of qualification.  

France recorded two victories in their Group F games and a draw, kicking off their tournament with a 0-0 stalemate against Jamaica. The side then travelled from Sydney to Brisbane in search of their first win, sealing a late 2-1 win over Brazil.

A come-from-behind victory over Panama saw the side qualify first out of their group, with a 6-3 win at Sydney Football Stadium.

The side then took on tournament debutants Morocco in their Round of 16 clash, putting away three goals in quick succession to take a 3-0 lead going into the break. 

Le Sommer rounded out the scoring in the second half to see the side book their spot in the quarter-finals.
