It just wasn't meant to be for Australia at France 2019 - but the Matildas did themselves and their country proud on the world stage.

The World Cup dream ended on Sunday morning in penalty shootout heartbreak (4-1) to Norway, after scores were locked at 1-1 after 90 minutes.

It was a bitter conclusion to the tournament for Ante Milicic's side, who battled fiercely against the Scandinavians.
