After the conclusion of this season's A-League Women's Final series, in which Kyra Cooney-Cross and Courtney Nevin are still featuring in for Melbourne Victory, both players will join their new club in Sweden with the season kicking off on Sunday, March 27th.

Cooney-Cross and Nevin made their debut for Australia alongside one another in June 2021 against Denmark, having competed in youth teams together for a number of years, and now sign their first professional contracts overseas together.

They join Hammarby Fotboll until the end of the 2023 Damallsvenskan season, with their new side making history last year after setting the attendance record in Sweden with 18,537 fans showing their support for the side from Stockholm.

The duo is the third Australian to sign with the club, following in the footsteps of Elise Kellond-Knight, who last played for Hammarby before the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

"I am very happy to come to Hammarby and take on a new challenge and chapter in my career. I have heard very nice things about the club and the team," Cooney-Cross told hammarbyfotboll.se.

Cooney-Cross joins the team after making close to 50 appearances in the A-League Women's, plying her trade at Western Sydney Wanderers and Melbourne Victory.

The midfielder, after making her debut for Australia in June, went on to make her Olympic debut, coming off the bench in the 75th minute in Australia's opening match win against New Zealand.

"I am extremely excited to come to Hammarby! I am grateful for the opportunity to come to such a nice club and look forward to getting started and meeting my new teammates. OBOS Damallsvenskan is a very good league that will develop me as a player," Nevin told hammarbyfotboll.se.

Nevin joins Hammarby after making the move to Melbourne Victory for the A-League Women's 2021/22 season. The defender made the switch from hometown club Western Sydney Wanderers after spending three years with the red and black.

The defender sees the move abroad as an opportunity to develop herself against some of the best players in the world. Nevin and Cooney-Cross will join the likes of Teagan Micah, Charlotte Grant, Clare Polkinghorne and Katrina Gorry this season in Sweden, with FC Rosengård, Vittsjö GIK and now Hammarby having an Aussie duo.

Hammarby finished in seventh place last year in the OBOS Damallsvenskan, and will be hoping a bolstering in attack will help make the push to claim a UWCL spot for next season.

Their season kicks off against Eskilstuna on Sunday the 27th of March at 12:00am.
