Socceroo Robbie Kruse has scored the quickest goal of this season-s German Cup competition to help Bayer Leverkusen reach the quarter-finals of the DFB Pokal for the first time in five years.

Kruse capitalised on the earliest of errors from SC Freiburg-s defence to net the opener with just 29 seconds on the clock.

The home side equalised in the 19th minute courtesy of Matthias Ginter but Emre Can scored what proved to be the decisive goal in the second half to send Leverkusen through with a 2-1 result.

Kruse-s goal was his first for his German club in the Cup competition, in just his second appearance and he went on to play the full 90 minutes in a wide attacking role on the right.

German heavyweights Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund (who sit either side of Leverkusen at the top of the Bundesliga ladder) also progressed after they both recorded 2-0 away victories.
