Jenna McCormick crosses town on Westfield W-League return

Westfield Matildas defender Jenna McCormick is heading back to Melbourne for the Westfield W-League, but she won't be rejoining Melbourne Victory for 2020/21.

It was announced on Thursday that McCormick has signed for defending Westfield W-League Champions Melbourne City for the upcoming season.

The 26-year-old joins the club following a stint at Real Betis in Spain, and almost one year after making her international debut for the Matildas.

On joining City, McCormick said:

“It wasn't a tough decision to join City, the Club is undoubtably leading the way in professional women's football in Australia and I believe that environment breed success which is something I want to achieve here.

“My goal for this season is really simple, I want to help build a healthy, supportive, and fun environment for the team to achieve its goals. I will be bringing my professionalism, elite standards, and work ethic to the Club and I really pride myself on respecting my teammates and working for the greater good of the team.

“There's going to be a lot of fresh faces - including me - so I think it's really important that we establish the standards for the season early, which will then drive our campaign to defend what this incredible team has done over the years.”

Melbourne City FC Director of Football Michael Petrillo said:

“Jenna is a fantastic addition to the team, she is a terrific athlete, good on the ball and has a terrific attitude which suits the style of football and what we want to achieve this season.

"She’s been clear that she’s coming to City to win trophies and chase a record breaking fifth championship, in six seasons. Her return to Australia speaks volumes about the strength of our W-League.”
