Gustavsson "I'm so excited for us to play in Australia"

Ahead of the Commonwealth Bank Matildas final session before taking on Brazil, Head Coach Tony Gustavsson joined the media for the official pre-match press conference.

With our return to home soil less than 24 hours away, upcoming friendlies against Brazil will be our much-anticipated return to home soil after 18 months abroad.

For head coach Tony Gustavsson this is his first trip to Australia since starting his tenure at the beginning of the year, joked that he was more excited than the players to be playing on home soil.

With players coming from all over the world and landing in Sydney at different times, the first agenda item for Gustavsson was to get all players to the same level.

"First at the beginning of camp was to get everyone up and running and be on the same page physically so that we can go out in the field and train the high-intensity football that we want to play,"

A 23-player squad has been named for the friendlies against Brazil, with a mix of familiar faces and some fresh new faces making their first appearance in camp. With Gustavsson's sights set on building the strongest possible squad for the 2022 AFC Asian Cup in January, this camp and two-match series is the perfect time to assess where everyone is at.

They can't wait for the game to kick-off and wear that crest. There's tons of moviation out there to play this game with the fans in the stands.

The colourful rivalry between the two sides will have another chapter written over the next two games. The last time the side's met was at the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup, where Australia came from behind to win 3-2.

Gustavsson is excited to add to the history between the two sides, with the blockbuster game the first time back on home soil for the players in over 600 days.
